Inner Honor

A follow-up to Immolation

Suisan "Sue" R.

Notes:  This poem. Like Immolation, was inspired by TSxBS and the few lines written by BethB.  Unlike Immolation, which was written in Blair's POV, Inner Honor is done from Jim's Point Of View.

Inner Honor

My world, gone insane, only more so now.

Privacy, my only real treasure, shot to hell.

What has he done?

Only he didn't, it's not his fault.

Not really, but he should've known better.

She meant well, I'm sure, but as they say:

"The road to hell is paved

With good intentions,

Gone astray."

I don't need this, right not now.

Far too much for me to bear alone…

But I pushed him away.

What is this I see on the TV?

Chief, what do you think you're doing?

Public seppuku?  NO!

I blink and it's done.

It's over now, finished.

Bridges have been burned.

Focus, Soldier, your objective is in sight.

Target going down, falling into death.

But it's Blair and me who'll pay the price.

Truth, bitter at first, sweet afterwards

Helps to open my eyes

What have I become?

My inborn honor demands to be heard.

Kicking and screaming, not wanting to listen -- I stop…

And consider my thoughts.

Oh, why did I sound like I wanted him to commit academic suicide?

Was it just one of those fear based responses I know that I have?

Or was it something more?

I knew, from the start, where this project of his would lead.

But I never stopped to think about what it would ultimately mean.

To him, to me, to us and to those who are our friends.

This 'thing' that I am, touches more than just two souls.

It engulfs all who have seen it's bright fire,

And witnessed exactly what we are.

Oh it was never about fame,

Or fortune, recognition and such.

It was always about us.

We're friends, partners.

Brothers of the Soul.

We are who we are.

Thank God I've finally seen,

Just how precious that can be.

It really is, as he said long ago,

About friendship.

Note about Seppuku -- Seppuku is a traditional form of ritualized suicide.  Usually done in private, with only family and friends to witness, but done in public on rare occasions to restore the honor of the family "House" or Clan within the eyes of the kingdom/nation.
